Kingfishr / WineMom – Wexford Spiegeltent Festival 02.11.2024

On November 2, 2024, the Wexford Spiegeltent Festival hosted a sold-out performance by Irish indie-folk trio Kingfishr. The evening commenced with a brilliant set by the Dublin-based band WineMom, whose performance helped to set the tone for the night.

WineMom’s ultra cool presence and impressive vocals captivated the audience, effectively warming up the crowd and setting the stage for the headliners. Their blend of indie rock and folk elements landed well, leaving the audience eager to discover more about this upcoming band.

Before Kingfishr even took the stage, the atmosphere in the Spiegeltent was electric. Those in attendance were loudly singing along to the filler music before the band took the stage. The trio—comprising Eddie Keogh (vocals, guitar), Eoghan “McGoo” McGrath (banjo, strings), and Eoin “Fitz” Fitzgibbon (bass, guitar)—opened with “Heart in the Water,” immediately drawing the audience into their signature sound. The band’s chemistry was obvious to see, a testament to their rapid rise in the Irish music scene. They bounced off one another on stage and showed a real togetherness.

Throughout the set, Kingfishr delivered a mix of fan favorites and newer material. Tracks like “Headlands” and “Eyes Don’t Lie” showcased their heartfelt lyrics. The  rendition of “Shot in the Dark” was a nice touch, with the band creating an intimate atmosphere reminiscent of their earlier performances.

The band’s performance was further elevated by their recent experiences on the festival circuit, including appearances at Glastonbury, TRNSMT, and Reading and Leeds.  These experiences have honed their live show, bringing a polished yet authentic energy to the Spiegeltent stage. The crowd was a major component of the evening from the first song where the band jumped on the barriers right up to the latter stages of the show where the trio entered the crowd, turned down the lights and had an authentic moment with their fans. As the night progressed, Kingfishr’s engagement with the audience deepened. Their storytelling between songs provided insight into their creative process and the personal experiences that inspire their music. The young band showed how grateful they are to have experienced such a quick rise to stardom. The set concluded with an encore featuring “Flowers-Fire” and “Caroline,” leaving the crowd in high spirits.

As they continue their tour, including dates in Cork, Galway, and Belfast, their reputation as a must-see live act is well-deserved.
