Def Nettle – Shares Fierce Remix of Arcadian Shadows Single ‘Valediction’ and Music Video

Irish punk outfit Def Nettle has released a remix of ‘Arcadian Shadows’ 2019 single, ‘Valediction’, today, transforming the original grunge-fueled punk track into an 80s-infused, electronic monster.

Taking the raw energy of fellow Dublin band Arcadian Shadows’ original and pushing it into the electronic realm, Def Nettle lead vocalist and producer Glen Brady builds a collision of searing synths, punchy 808s, robotic analogue bass lines and arpeggios.

The remix sees Brady morph frontman Cribbo’s vocals into electronic percussion, samples and anthemic howls, before the track erupts into a full-scale wall of sound, resulting in a dark, kinetic fusion of punk and industrial electronics.

Creating an enigmatic robotic dance-rock crossover that retains the rebellious spirit of Arcadian Shadows while bringing in Def Nettle’s unmistakable production style, the single arrives with a psychedelic music video, reworked into a furious and kinetic piece of visual art.

Punk-funk outfit Def Nettle have enjoyed a busy 2026, with support slots for Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Aquabats and Sultans of Ping, alongside an appearance at Forest Fest 2026. A string of new releases and their renowned, often quirky visual work are set to arrive throughout Autumn 2026 and early 2027.

Named one of The Irish Times’ ‘New Irish Acts To Savour’ in 2023, Def Nettle released debut album DN001 to critical acclaim, with The Irish Times noting: “Elements of new wave and postpunk meet a peppering of The The and Tom Waits”, praising the band’s ability to draw from familiar musical territory while avoiding pastiche.

Producer and frontman Glen Brady brings extensive experience across recording, production and live performance. A Dubliner whose life and career have also taken him through New York, Berlin and San Francisco, Brady has session musician credits with R.E.M., spent five years as an engineer with the California State Symphony, and toured as a member of DARK alongside Andy Rourke of The Smiths and the late Dolores O’Riordan. He also mixed DARK’s album Science Agrees.

‘Valediction (Def Nettle Remix)’ sees Arcadian Shadows’ raw Punk energy collide with Def Nettle’s electronic sound, taking the original track somewhere completely different

Having earned themselves a solid reputation on the Irish punk circuit through a string of incendiary live shows, Arcadian Shadows channel the chaos and contradictions of modern life into music that is ferocious, rebellious and cathartic.

Their songs tackle themes of alienation, post-modernity and refusal to accept the increasingly dystopian world around us, drawing on the spirit of classic 70s punk while injecting it with a contemporary edge.

With influences spanning Sex Pistols and Dead Kennedys through to modern acts such as IDLES and early Arctic Monkeys, Arcadian Shadows have carved out a sound that is confrontational, visceral and distinctly their own.

‘Valediction’ captures that spirit at its core, while the Def Nettle remix takes it somewhere altogether unexpected.
