Jamie Grey – shares the new single ‘Unequivocal’

Jamie Grey is an artist built upon authenticity, his growing songbook full of impassioned, soulful explorations of tender real life emotions that people can relate to. After his recent single ‘How Did We Get To Midnight’ earned fresh attention, his status as one of the UK’s most authentic emerging artists continues with the new single ‘Unequivocal’

Jamie has stated that family, friendships and love are his main inspirations, and ‘Unequivocal’ is evidence of that statement. The rich timbre of his voice leads the song as he shares a story of the challenges of relationships – and in particular the realisation that facing up to some setbacks means you can move forward together rather than just split up. The music complements his emotionally resonant lyricism, an airplay-ready song with a full band production led by a beautiful piano melody.

Jamie says, “Unequivocal is a word that I wasn’t even sure why I knew its meaning or where I’d heard it before.

When I was writing this song I was trying to explain the thought of knowing something for absolute certain. A knowing in your heart that you’d be reunited with a person again and you couldn’t be told otherwise. The word unequivocal just came out. I thought maybe it was a bit too complex of a word to be in a song but I couldn’t shake how perfectly it summed up what I was trying to say. That’s how the song was born.

I also for a long time wanted to write a song about goodbyes but in a positive light and not such an obviously sad one. I’ve often thought, ‘What if I could flip my goodbyes into something positive? Maybe then I wouldn’t fear goodbyes as much as I do.’ The song really helped me with that and I absolutely love it for that reason.”

Recent times have seen Jamie Grey push forwards on multiple fronts, with Radio 2 and BBC Introducing airplay, 75 million+ streams, co-writing with James Arthur, a sold-out UK headline tour, and gigs with Rag’n’Bone Man, Scouting For Girls and Jools Holland.

But things didn’t always look that promising for him. He was raised in Redcar, but never really felt like becoming an artist was a realistic ambition. After getting a job working in finance in London that gradually changed – he’d watch a busker near the office everyday and came to realise that music is what he was compelled to do.  After committing to that goal, a big break emerged when he competed on ‘The Voice’ but didn’t succeed in the blind auditions. But that didn’t break him: instead he spent a year working on his artistry, returned to try again and earned the backing of both Olly Murs and Tom Jones en route to making the top eight of the live show. And that set his career in motion.

Jamie’s upcoming ‘Songs I Wrote’ tour is the ideal presentation of his style, bringing solo voice and acoustic guitar performances to intimate venues across the UK and Europe. Tickets for the dates, listed below, are available HERE.
