Cat Ryan / Dream Boy – The Sound House, Dublin 05.10.2024

Dublin’s Sound House came alive this past Saturday night as Cat Ryan delivered a powerful performance with the venue packed to capacity. Fans from Ireland, England, and even as far as America filled the room, creating an electric atmosphere that perfectly matched the energy of the band.

The night was opened by Dublin band Dream Boy who are quickly becoming favourites in the Irish music scene. The alt rock band have played shows all around the country and their track “take whatever” is available to stream now. They are definitely ones to check out.

Car Ryan’s show kicked off with the fan favourite “Lost My Connection,” immediately setting the tone for the night. Cat Ryan’s up-and-coming status is no secret, and this gig was a reminder of why the band is generating such a buzz. Tracks like “Mary Shelley Song” and “Roller Chain” showcased their signature blend of dynamic rhythms and beautiful melodies, while their cover of “Real Love Baby” added a touch of indie warmth to the night.

The setlist, as varied as it was, flowed seamlessly, demonstrating the versatility of their songwriting. Songs like “Amsterdam” and “Speeding Too Slow” highlighted their ability to blend introspective lyrics with upbeat tempos. The night flew by in a blur, much like the greyhound in their closing song “Rex Mundi”. The crowd were left begging for more which is a testament to how good this band are.

One of the standout moments was their cover of CMATs “I Wanna Be a Cowboy, Baby” which saw the crowd erupt, proving that Cat Ryan has the unique ability to take a track make it their own. This cover was well thought out and a nod to frontwoman Mary-Anne’s Irish roots as revealed during our recent chat. Mary-Anne’s command of the stage was undeniable. It’s no wonder she was so forthcoming in our interview before the show, where she expressed excitement about Cat Ryan’s future and the diversity of their fan base. You can read more about our conversation and her reflections on the band’s journey here. As Cat Ryan continues to climb the ranks, it’s clear that their live performances will only further solidify their place in the indie music scene. Last night’s gig was a testament to their raw talent and the international appeal they’re beginning to foster. Keep your eyes on this band; they’re going places.
