Broadcaster, musician and composer Graham Smyth is bringing his Music To Interact With show to festivals across Ireland this summer, starting with Kaleidoscope this weekend, followed by All Together Now, The Big Grill, and Electric Picnic throughout July and August.
Music To Interact With is an interactive live show that invites audiences to learn about electronic music by actively taking part in its creation.
Building on his album Music For Babies To Rave And Sleep To, Smyth brings an immersive performance format that moves beyond the traditional gig experience. Audiences are guided through a live exploration of electronic music production in an interactive performance that invites you to join a micro-rave, experience a soundtracked nap, and even take on the role of a ‘Featured Artist’ alongside Graham during the live set!
The show is designed for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Using swanky synthesizers and crazy effects pedals, Smyth demonstrates how electronic music is constructed in real time, offering audiences a hands-on introduction to sound design, rhythm, and performance.Graham Smyth says: “The whole idea for my album Music For Babies To Rave And Sleep To was to introduce little ears into the world of electronic music. With the live show I wanted to create a concept that would introduce existing and future lovers of electronic music into the process of how it is made and performed. And what better way than letting them perform the album with me.
“In this era of drag-and-drop electronic music production using loop and sample packs, or AI tools that can generate music from a prompt, I wanted to bring people away from screens and back to the joy of creating music in a tactile way using real, physical instruments.”
Music To Interact With premiered at End of the Road Festival in Dorset last summer, with subsequent performances at the London Jazz Festival and NI Science Festival.
