Breezy iDeyGoke & Art of Algebra – return with trip-hop infused ‘Felonious Monk’

Felonious Monk’ is the new single from the Breezy iDeyGoke & Art of Algebra collaboration, due for release on Friday, 10th October 2025

Building on the raw and distinctive trip-hop infused sound the pair established with ‘Praying on a Gamble’ (the video for which was shortlisted for a Kinsale Shark Award for Best Direction), the track explores themes of risk, confrontation and survival with gritty wordplay and dark humour.

Breezy iDeyGoke announces he is “back with a vengeance, marvel at the entrance”, as he delivers a barrage of puns, telling us he must “find ways through, chase more pesos, and shine on like the bald head of Bezos”.

The title is a nod to jazz legend Thelonious Monk, tweaked to become a mischievous and streetwise persona, reflecting the MC’s knack for blending themes of reverence, provenance and reinvention. Adopting the persona of a sage felon, iDeyGoke warns “nobody gone ring if you mess up, brother’s keeper don’t fess up”.

Echoing the duo’s ‘Praying on a Gamble’, their latest release also conjures darker imagery of adversity, resilience and religious faith. “Always knew Satan would test us. Go through the fire you sweat up.”

Echoing the duo’s ‘Praying on a Gamble’, their latest release also conjures darker imagery of adversity, resilience and religious faith. “Always knew Satan would test us. Go through the fire you sweat up.”

Art of Algebra’s production draws from the golden era of east coast boom-bap hip-hop, built on a thumping upright bass hook, brass section and a dizzying break beat. The track eventually progresses into a more ambient trip-hop sound, as iDeyGoke conjures an arresting image of his lived experience – “silence of the lambs, what we seen really stress us.”

The track is the first single from the duo’s new upcoming EP and will be followed by a live performance video on Tuesday, 14th October.

Reflecting on their latest release, iDeyGoke says “with us making a return after a hiatus, it feels right to go back to certain fundamentals and pay homage to the early hip-hop sounds of NYC. We have some exciting things in the pipeline, some of which are nastier than this. ‘Felonious’ feels like we are entering the ring, but the fight is yet to come.“

Art of Algebra says he is excited that the duo has come together again and he’s looking forward to bringing their new material to the live circuit. “After producing more tracks together, we’re confident that we have established a sound of our own – that’s absolutely paramount. We live in a time when it’s easy to imitate. To make art that matters nowadays it has to be distinctive and authentic. I’m confident we’ve genuinely achieved this.”

‘Felonious Monk’ will be available on all major platforms. Pre-save here.
