Truthpaste today announce their debut EP ‘I Don’t Know Either‘ set for release April 28th on Dirty Hit & Memorials Of Distinction (caroline, Grove, Naima Bock). Recent single Bus Song won an avalanche of praise from tastemakers across press and radio, building on an already buzz-filled trajectory. The band will embark on a UK headline tour in May, which includes a date at The Lexington, London.
On the new single, ‘Friendship Is The Truth’, the band say –
“Euan and Claire played it to us once, then we got distracted for a couple years, but I would find myself singing it and trying to figure out what it was. I was very happy to finally piece it together last summer. It felt like the right time for it to form as we have all become very good friends over the last couple of years and it is indeed the friendship song.” – Esme
Truthpaste are a band of five people and one trusty computer drum. Formed in Manchester in 2022, the band have developed a reputation for their unique, indefinable sound that blends elements of pop, acoustic folk, and electronic music. They have since moved to London where they have embedded themselves in the city’s live music scene, playing everywhere and often, honing their show and gathering a dedicated audience.
I Don’t Know Either features bold pivots in style, showcasing the breadth of the band and their sense of collaboration. Each track has a distinct character as different members reveal themselves in respective ways, yet the communal emphasis is maintained, especially in songs like “Swill To The Swine” and “Friendship Is The Truth” which both feature group vocals and powerful instrumental sections reminiscent of the debut singles. “Bus Song” and “Never Gonna Give” pull the EP into a new, higher energy realm more representative of their live shows, leaving the violin and acoustic guitar for driving electric guitar and synths. The band share both songwriting and instrumental duties, the result is an EP that jumps between genres and soundscapes, giving a small flavour of the Truthpaste scope and intentions for things to come.
