Beans On Toast / Will Varley – A Double Headline Adventure in Ireland 2025 tour live gallery and review from The Grand Social Dublin 16.07.2025

The Grand Social in Dublin played host to A Double Headline Adventure in Ireland 2025, a vibrant and intimate evening of alt-folk storytelling with Will Varley and Beans On Toast (Jay McAllister). With each act delivering a full hour-long set packed with music, laughter, and heartfelt moments, it was the kind of night that reminds you why live music still matters.

Will Varley opened the show with an unexpected move performing a brand-new, never-before-played song. It was a brave choice that immediately set a tone of authenticity and risk-taking for the night. From there, he moved into more familiar territory, with standout tracks like Until the Grass Gets Greener and Machines Will Never Learn to Make Mistakes, a thoughtful, humorous take on the growing role of artificial intelligence. Varley’s signature blend of social commentary, lyrical depth, and dry wit kept the crowd engaged from start to finish.

Following Varley, Beans On Toast brought his usual blend of ramshackle charm, clever songwriting, and irreverent humor. Jay McAllister has a rare gift for making a packed room feel like a living room session, chatting easily with the crowd and weaving stories through his songs. The audience, clearly full of longtime fans, sang along with enthusiasm, creating an atmosphere that felt more like a gathering of friends than a formal gig.

The encore was a real highlight, with Varley returning to the stage to join McAllister for two collaborative songs. Their performance of A Different Man, followed by one final number, was met with rapturous applause and felt like a perfect summation of the evening personal, poetic, and filled with heart. The show wasn’t just about great music; it was about connection. Both artists have a unique ability to tell stories that resonate, to find humor in the absurd, and to draw people in with nothing but a guitar, a voice, and a message.

With two more shows left in Ireland and a run of UK dates to follow, not to be missed. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to their work, you’re in for a night of laughs, reflection, and unforgettable songs. If you’re lucky enough to catch them live, don’t hesitate you’ll leave smiling.
