The Wombats are an indie household name and they’ve been showing us how a live show is done for years.
Their current live setup feels much the same as when I caught them on their U.S. tour in 2017. They’ve held onto the same high energy – bassist Tord Knudsen bounded around the stage in typical fashion, while Matthew “Murph” Murphy’s unmistakable vocals were anchored by drummer Dan Haggis’ tight rhythms.
The Liverpool trio tore through a setlist blending classics like “Moving to New York” and “Turn” with newer tracks from Oh! The Ocean. Murph’s between-song banter was as sharp as ever and Tord’s basslines essentially carried a personality of their own. Dublin audiences are rarely reserved, this one was no exception.
