One of Britain’s most celebrated modern rock bands are back. Today, The Temperance Movement announce their long-awaited fourth studio album, New Promise Land Incorporated, to be released October 9th via Earache Records.
First single, ‘Eat You Alive’, lays down a stunning marker and rings in the new record with a fervour and swagger that makes it a joy to have The Temperance Movement back.
“The album is a return to our beginnings in the truest sense” explains lead guitarist Paul Sayer. “We went about it in the same way we did our first album, the band in a room, live to tape. This time with Ethan Johns alongside us, we wanted to capture what it’s like to be in a room with The Temperance Movement.”
Frontman Phil Campbell adds; “Eat You Alive’ was one of the first songs written. The lyrics describe the Somerset countryside in context to my journey to write with the guys – casting it against my own super-urban home life in Glasgow. I’m dissatisfied with the shooshing, nit-picking and editing of life nowadays. I was a teenager in the 90’s, and now I live in a very controlled and conservative world compared to that liberal zenith. The concept of being eaten alive or ruined entirely for backing the wrong horse or sticking up for the good guy when the bad guy has all the votes – these are very real fears for anyone today, from children through to adulthood.”
New Promise Land Incorporated signals the beginning of an entirely new chapter. Recorded in April 2026 and produced and mixed by acclaimed producer Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Laura Marling, Ray LaMontagne), the album marks the band’s first collection of all-new material in eight years.
Capturing the raw electricity that has always defined The Temperance Movement, the album delivers exactly what longtime fans have been waiting for: powerful live-to-tape energy, deeply soulful songwriting, blues-soaked riffs, towering grooves, and the unmistakable chemistry of five musicians reconnecting at precisely the right moment.
From the psychedelic pulse of opening track ‘Shadows’ to the infectious drive of lead single ‘Eat You Alive’, the record moves effortlessly between explosive rock’n’roll and moments of remarkable vulnerability. Tracks such as ‘Mongrels’ showcase the band’s gift for understated beauty, while ‘Saving Grace’ delivers some of the most emotionally resonant songwriting of their career.
The result is a record that feels deeply human, and a celebration of everything that has always made The Temperance Movement such a compelling force – both on record and on stage.
Emerging as one of the key forces behind rock’s resurgence in the 2010s, the band quickly earned a reputation for injecting fresh vitality into a sound rooted in the swagger and soul of giants such as The Black Crowes, The Faces and The Rolling Stones. Across a catalogue that has consistently resonated with audiences, including multiple UK Top 40 albums and 2018’s UK Top 10 record A Deeper Cut (which reached #6), the band established themselves as one of Britain’s leading acts.
Following an extended hiatus after A Deeper Cut, The Temperance Movement made their long-awaited return to the stage in 2025, and the response was immediate and overwhelming. Their UK and European comeback tour saw sold-out shows, venue upgrades, and ecstatic receptions night after night, including a triumphant sold-out performance at London’s iconic O2 Forum Kentish Town.
That momentum has only continued to build. Following the success of the reunion tour, the band have been invited to headline major festivals across Europe in 2026, including appearances at Steelhouse Festival, Maid of Stone Festival, Azkena Rock Festival, Notodden Blues Festival and Rootsy Summer Fest, proving their connection with audiences has only strengthened during their time away.
With a major 21-date UK and European headline tour set to follow shortly after release, New Promise Land Incorporated promises to mark one of the defining rock returns of 2026.
