The Scratch / Dug – Live at Bank Lane Waterford 27.12.2024

In the aftermath of Christmas Day cobwebs, Waterford’s Bank Lane played host to a night that could only be described as wild. On December 27, The Scratch delivered a blistering performance that proved why they are one of Ireland’s most exciting live acts. With support from Dug, a band exuding a folk vibe reminiscent of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, the night was set to be a memorable one.

Dug opened the show and immediately gained everyones attention and respect. The duo chatted to the sold-out crowd with charm and high energy. Their folk-inspired sound paired perfectly with the festive atmosphere. The band worked the room like seasoned performers, warming up an already excitable audience for the chaos that was to come.

Bank Lane, which has recently undergone renovations, has solidified itself as the premier venue for live music in Waterford. The improvements not only enhance the experience for gig goers but also creates opportunities for bigger acts to consider adding the City to their tour schedules. With its intimate yet lively ambiance, it was the perfect setting for The Scratch’s brand of musical madness.

When The Scratch took the stage, the energy in the room shifted into complete overdrive. They wasted no time diving into their high-octane setlist, kicking things off with “Flaker” and “Ronnie.” By the time “Banshee” and “Cheeky Bastard” rolled around, shirts were off, mosh pits were in full swing, and the crowd surfing had well and truly begun. Sweat-soaked and unapologetically wild, their performance felt like a gig of times gone by. The crowd was there for the music and the band was there for the crowd. Nobody was recording their favourite tracks, instead they were in the middle of a 50 deep pit of like minded concert goers. Tracks like “McAlpines Fusiliers” and “Blaggard” whipped the crowd into a frenzy, and by the time they closed with the anthemic “Latchico,” the energy in the room was seriously something to behold. The sheer intensity of the audience matched the band’s ferocity, left everyone exhausted but ecstatic.

The Scratch play the venue again tonight before finishing their run with another sold out show on Sunday. The demand and also the delivery shows why Bank Lane has earned the status as the best live music venue in Waterford. To all those attending tonight and Sunday, you’re in for treat!
