The Road to The Great Escape – night one live gallery & review from Whelans and The Workmans Club Dublin 12.05.2025

Night one of The Road to The Great Escape in Dublin was a whirlwind of fresh talent and unpredictable weather.  We kicked things off at Whelan’s with Lee Brady, whose set was a solid opener. He has a great online following and these events are great to give artists such as Lee the opportunity to showcase his talent.

Then, under skies that had turned from sunshine to rain in minutes, we dashed over to The Workman’s Club.  There, Jo Hill delivered an empowering performance, talking about lots of different topics including empowering women and urging men to feel their feelings. She was followed by the fantastic Odhran Murphy, whom I had previously seen opening for Darren Kiely last year. Odhran is going from strength to strength and those in attendance were wowed by his talent.

I made it back to Whelan’s just in time to catch Allie Sherlock, who’s definitely making a name for herself with tracks like “Ex Friend,” “Damage Control,” and “How Love Works.” She sang all of those tracks and some covers.  Her live energy was infectious and she is well versed in commanding a crowd having busked the streets of Ireland for many years.

The event continues this evening with night two, featuring performances from many up and coming musical talent. If last night was any indication, it’s going to be another night of brilliant performances. Tickets are still available.
