Rotherham indie rockers The Reytons brought their UK & Ireland tour to Dublin for its opening night, delivering a high energy performance that gave their loyal following everything they could have hoped for and more. With support from Alex Spencer and Cruz Beckham and the Breakers, the night built steadily towards a headline set packed with crowd pleasers.
First up was Alex Spencer, who opened proceedings with a seven song set, kicking things off with ‘Where Do We Go From Here’. He continued with tracks including ‘All Of This Will Be Gone’ and ‘Nightmares’ before bringing his set to a close with ‘These Will Be The Days’. It was a solid start to the evening, warming up the crowd and setting the tone for what was to come.
Next on the bill were Cruz Beckham and the Breakers, who delivered a belter of a set and got the Dublin crowd nicely warmed up for the headliners. There has been plenty of talk lately about so called ‘nepo babies’, but writing someone off because of their family connections is, in my opinion, complete nonsense. Who hasn’t benefited from a parent, friend or contact opening a door or putting in a good word? Ultimately, getting up on stage and fronting a band takes talent, confidence and the ability to connect with an audience. Cruz and the Breakers showed they had plenty of that, putting in a strong performance on their first night playing in Dublin.
Then it was time for The Reytons to take centre stage. Opening with ‘Red Smoke’, the Rotherham four piece wasted no time getting things moving, powering through a full throttle, 16 song set that included ‘Adrenaline’, ‘On the Back Burner’ and ‘Shoebox’. The energy remained high throughout, with the band finishing the night on ‘Low Life’.
The stage setup also added plenty of character to the show, featuring replica shopfronts at the back, including a Turkish barber shop and a newsagent. Over on stage left stood a full size red post box, creating a distinctly British street scene backdrop that suited the band’s working class indie identity perfectly.
With three acts delivering across the night, the opening show of The Reytons’ World Tour proved a winning start. The large contingent of Manchester fans in attendance were treated to a night of energetic live music, memorable tunes and plenty of atmosphere. If this Dublin performance is anything to go by, the band’s World Tour is off to a flying start.
