The Delines rolled into Bank Lane, Waterford last night as part of the Irish leg of their tour.
Opening the evening was Chris Eckman of The Walkabouts, who held the crowd in the palm of his hand with every note. I’m not exaggerating when I say you could hear a pin drop during his set, his voice had the room hanging on every word.
When The Delines took to the stage, the atmosphere shifted to one of warmth and fun. They were interactive throughout, chatting with the audience and slipping stories between songs, their sound was complimented beautifully by the intimate charm of Bank Lane. The band joked about wanting to move to Ireland, wondering aloud what they could offer the country, a thought that had the crowd smiling and, truthfully, isn’t hard to answer given the music they bring.
Having already stopped off in Dublin and Cork, the band seemed energised by the journey, and the Waterford crowd gave it right back to them. With Belfast up next for a sold-out show, The Delines are hitting a real stride on this tour. Last night was a reminder of how perfectly their way of storytelling and soulful Americana translates into live presence.
