The Courettes hit Irish shores for the first time last night and man yes The Fabulous Courettes by name and nature. Touring their fourth album The Soul Of… The Fabulous Courettes, they play four Irish dates.
This garage rock / Doo-wop pair really know how to put on a show of rock & roll proportions with Danish drummer Martin Thorsen egging on the crowd between songs and Brazilian guitarist Flávia Couri doing similar during songs and dominating the stage as she struts about.
We were treated and introduced to a fabulous sixteen song set with many of the tunes taken from the new album The Soul Of… The Fabulous Courettes, but also some great older numbers too.
Anyone going to Cork tonight you are in for a blinding show and that goes for the Kilkenny show on Saturday which is part of The Kilkenny Roots Festival which I’m lucky enough to be catching and then the pair head to Belfast to finish out their tour of Ireland.
Opening the night was Dublin artist Stefan Murphy, I’am always happy to walk into a venue a find that Stefan is on support duties as he never disappoints with his solo sets, a mix of The Mighty Stef / Count Vaseline and his latest band The Sleeveens.
And last night was made a little more special for me as Stefan play and acoustic version of Ceremony requested by myself. in my opinion one of the best songs ever written, but hey what do I know lol. Check it out and see for yourselves.
