Scottish Rockers Flair – Unveil Wistful Indie Single “City Lights”

Flair continue to light up Scotland’s alt-rock scene and tear up the rulebook with their latest release, City Lights. Since solidifying their line-up in 2023, this fearless five-piece have been redefining the local alt-music landscape while rapidly gaining national momentum.

Channelling the melodic finesse of Wunderhorse and The War On Drugs and fused with the raw edge of Fontaines D.C., Flair have carved out a sound entirely their own, delivering swirling beds of reverb, infectious hooks, and crisp, contemporary production. The result? A sound that’s both fresh and familiar—irresistible to long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Their music often reflects their Glasgow connection, with the city acting as a muse and catalyst for inspiration; whilst many bands rebel against their roots. 2024 marked a major leap forward for the five-piece, kicked off by the anthemic release “Run Away” and their subsequent debut EP. These releases coincided with sold-out headline shows in Glasgow and gigs across the UK and Ireland, spreading their electrifying, genre-bending sound.

National press took note of their rapid rise, with The Scotsman naming Flair their “Under the Radar: Artist of the month”. Earlier this year,  Flair dropped their first music video, for the powerful release “Saccharine”, which was directed by the acclaimed Stuart Alexander. With over 108,000 views worldwide, Flair’s appeal extends well beyond the stage, though their sold-out support slots at Glasgow’s iconic King Tut’s and McChuills speaks highly of their growing pull on the live circuit.

Now, with a strong support team behind them—including rising indie label Revo Pro Records and established producer Mark Morrow—Flair are poised for their next big moment.  Upcoming single “City Lights” arrives fresh after tour dates in Lincoln

and Birmingham, and ahead of appearances at Belladrum Festival and Prestfest 2025. With further gigs lined up in Sheffield, Manchester and back home in Glasgow, it’s set to be a defining release as they reach their year’s halfway point.

On the single, the band explain, “‘City Lights’ was the result of a late-night writing session between Johnnie (bass) and Tony (vocals) when they got together to combine some music and lyrics they had written independently. Once it was fleshed out by the rest of the band, we instantly knew we had a great tune. We’ve really leaned into our softer, fast-paced element. It bridges the heavier moments with a gentler touch, while still offering its own kind of subtle chaos”

Ironically, it’s Flair’s darkness that often shines the brightest—whilst their debut EP reminded us it’s always darkest before the dawn, “City Lights” captures the sound of the dawn itself. In just 10 months, the band has gone from local buzz to national must-watch.

Speak to their ever-growing fanbase and they’ll tell you: this is just the beginning.
