During my 90’s shoegaze phase, Ride were always a band I heard mentioned but didn’t really hear that much of, probably because singer/guitarist Andy Bell kept dismissing this label, therefore I wasn’t sure they’d be for me.
While I was mostly listening to My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and slowly being drawn more and more towards the music coming from Seattle (and Blur), I did get my friend to copy his ‘Nowhere’ CD onto a cassette for me, and the fact that about 30 years later it remains one of my go to options on Spotify says a lot.
Last night, Andy and Co. played the 3Olympia and what a show it was.
Fans, old and new, were treated to a show that spanned a very underrated back catalogue when it comes to a band with staying power and influence.
Perhaps their ‘extended’ break took them out of the limelight for too long, but from hearing them play it reminded me both of how they have a lot of really great songs, and how they can still captivate a full house, even after all this time.
Plus, I forgot how good they were as musicians
If you can catch them, I’d highly recommend grabbing a ticket.
You’ll be in for a hell of a ride (sorry) down an extensive back catalogue that you may not have heard in a while, but I’m sure you haven’t forgotten.
