Experimental Dingle/Cork-based band Pinhole unveil their eponymous single ‘Pinhole’ and striking music video today. ‘Pinhole’ is their final release before the group shares their debut album Sweet Spot on Friday, 11th October. Eerie and off-kilter, ‘Pinhole’ is a pointed criticism of those who take advantage of others, but with a mischievousness in the melody that keeps things from getting too serious.
Band members Ciara O’Flynn and Mark McLoughlin explain: “‘Pinhole’ is about things coming back to get you if you do nasty stuff to people. It also has a quirky side in that it takes the piss out of itself. Look deep into someone’s eyes and much will be revealed about who they really are…”
The music video, shot and edited by Matt Griffin, follows a rogue-type character (played by McLoughlin) on a symbolic quest for answers. As McLoughlin puts it, “He’s on a journey of discovery, looking for answers and peering inside the head through the eye that reveals the truth.”
Composed of O’Flynn, McLoughlin and other transitory musicians, Pinhole have been likened to a reinvented Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Bat for Lashes, and Portishead. Their singular artistry has been showcased on the celebrated Other Voices TV series.
Pinhole released their eerie single ‘Sweet Spot’ earlier this year, which is their track with the most radio impacts in Ireland to date. Pinhole were interviewed by RTÉ.ie, Entertainment.ie, Dublin City FM, and FM104 in the run-up to their recent shows at Cork’s Crane Lane and the legendary Whelans. The band’s recent release ‘I Want Desire’ was featured as RTÉ.ie’s Tune of the Week, and both singles have enjoyed airplay across RTÉ Lyric FM, RTÉ 2fm, Red FM, Newstalk, KCLR FM, and numerous other stations.
Pinhole’s first EP Between the Babies and the Birds was played extensively on 2FM, Today FM and Newstalk, and their music has been used in the RTÉ series Striking Out.
From delicate melodies to raw mayhem, Pinhole are ready to take you on a roller coaster journey of the senses.
