Overhead,The Albatross – live gallery & review from Cleere’s Bar & Theatre, Kilkenny 05.04.2025

Irish post-rock masters that are Overhead,The Albatross have remerged as a quartet and a new album that was released in 2024. The band are still taking audiences on a soundscape trip to what can only be called a musical dimension of mind blowing proportions.

The stage was set with minimal lighting of strip lights over head, that were strobing and pulsating throughout the night and a blanket of smoke shrouded the band on stage , even at times the stage was plunged into darkness all of this combine with the music makes for a wonderful mind expanding experience and a feast for the senses.

For the most the guys played an instrumental set as the band do, but at times the sold out crowd that packed themselves into the intimate venue of Cleere’s Bar & Theatre were treated to intermitting vocals throughout some tracks, more spoken word than actuall singing which just adds and even deeper and cosmic level to the tracks.

At times i found myself asking am i at a rock gig or a rave as the music switched between guitars and synths and judging by some of the crowds reactions they may have thought the same as some could be seen lost in a trance while throwing caution to the wind and dancing as if no one was watching (as it should be).
