Mechanical Wonders – celebrate family and heritage on heartfelt new single ‘Fabric Of Lines’

Written following the birth of frontman Richie McGrath’s children, “Fabric of Lines” is a heartfelt reflection on family, heritage and the invisible threads that connect us across generations.

Inspired by the idea that we all walk the same ground as those who came before us, the song explores how our ancestors, experiences and the natural world shape who we become. Looking into the eyes of his newborn children, McGrath reflected on the knowledge, love and resilience passed down through generations, realising that despite our differences, we are all part of the same story.

Recorded with acclaimed Irish producer Gavin Glass at Orphan Recording Studios, “Fabric of Lines” is the third single from Mechanical Wonders’ forthcoming EP. Blending driving rhythms, rich guitar textures and soaring melodies with thoughtful, emotionally resonant songwriting, the track showcases the band’s continued evolution into one of Dublin’s most compelling emerging indie acts.

At its heart, Fabric of Lines is a celebration of connection—between family, history, nature and one another—reminding us that every life becomes part of a much bigger story.

Mechanical Wonders is a five-piece indie band from Blanchardstown, Dublin, carving out a sound that blends anthemic guitar-driven energy with grounded, real-life storytelling.

Formed in 2023 from the remnants of their former folk project Good Time Villains, the band which consists of Richie McGrath (vocals/guitar), Keith McLoughlin and Brian Wolohan (guitars), Stephen Caulfield (bass), and Carl O’Connor (drums) has evolved into a tighter, more expansive outfit, trading their acoustic roots for jangling guitars, melodic hooks, and emotionally resonant songwriting.

Having grown up together in the same part of Dublin, their shared background directly feeds into both their chemistry and sound. Their sound is shaped by the guitar bands of the late ’90s and early 2000s while remaining rooted in distinctly Irish storytelling.

Following a strong run of releases and a breakthrough year in 2025—which included a sold-out Dublin show and a headline performance at Whelan’s—Mechanical Wonders has continued to build momentum as a compelling live band with a growing audience.

In 2026, they stepped into Orphan Recording Studios with producer Gavin Glass to record a four-track EP that captures the raw energy and connection of a band that has grown up side by side. The result is a collection of songs that feel both immediate and timeless, marking a confident step forward in their evolution.

With a sound that balances nostalgic indie textures and emotional depth, Mechanical Wonders are quickly establishing themselves as one of Dublin’s most promising emerging guitar bands.

The band recently released their first single Old Man from their upcoming EP. It received over 1,500 streams in its first week and landed rave reviews in Hot Press, Pure Mzine, McGig Music and more.

Their follow up anthem Instead Of Alone got them on to recive even bigger radio play, landing on stations such as 98FM, Tipp FM, 8Radio, Cork’s Red FM,  and many more as well as Golden Plec.

With more singles on the way and the EP on the horizon, Mechanical Wonders hopes to go from strength to strength and reach new heights.
