Marta Złakowska – shares the video for ‘Out The Way’ ft. Tricky.

Marta Złakowska shares the video for ‘Out The Way’ ft. Tricky. It’s the first track to be taken from her forthcoming album – details to be announced soon.

Marta Złakowska is a Polish vocalist and long-time collaborator of visionary musician and maverick Tricky. Her voice has an unconfoundable presence as a part of Tricky’s Maxinquaye Reincarnated EP and on Lee Scratch Perry’s last album, King Perry. On Tricky’s 14th studio album, Fall to Pieces, Marta started to receive her own critical acclaim, with The Guardian noting, “Złakowska’s coolly delicate voice is the glue to piece him together again (and) counter the producer’s darker impulses,” and CLASH reporting that Marta played, “a significant role in shaping the sound and feel of the album (and her) feathery voice makes the hair stand on end.”

Marta grew up in Płock, a small riverside town in a space touched by Eastern European culture inside the borders of a Central European country. She trained in classical and jazz vocal performance while listening to an eclectic mix of R&B, soul, minimal techno, and even the low-end sludge of metal. “I was all over the place!” she laughs.

In November 2017, between shifts at a local bar in Krakow, Marta, who had never left Europe, received an unexpected call. “Out of nowhere my friend who worked at a radio station called and asked if I wanted to sing with Tricky, and for a second I didn’t think it was Tricky. He said: come in an hour for soundcheck. Next thing I know I’m in a taxi.” After speedily learning the vocals of Tricky and Martina Topley-Bird’s When We Die in the back of the car, Marta arrived and stepped on stage. “At first, Tricky didn’t say anything. Then he asked, ‘Do you have a passport?’ I said ‘no.’ He turned to his tour manager and said: ‘She needs her passport by January, we’re going on tour!’ I’ve been with him ever since.”

“Marta can do what she wants. She had fans before having any release of her own.” – Tricky
