Waterford’s Bank Lane was heaving last night for a sold-out show that was a full-blown sensory overload. If you’ve ever seen King Kong Company live, you’ll know what I mean. If you haven’t—get on it. Because last night wasn’t just music, it was a fierce, costume-fuelled, bass-thumping rave that had the place shaking well into Sunday morning.
Opening duties went to electronic maestro Peter Vogelaar, who has fast become a favourite in the venue. Having played there recently, he returned with a slick, pulsing set that laid the perfect groundwork for what was to come. He had the crowd vibing from the first drop.
And then… King Kong Company. From the moment the first notes of “Yum Yum” dropped and a bunny ran through the crowd, you knew this wasn’t going to be your standard gig. The sound in Bank Lane, already known for its excellent acoustics, felt incredible. Every drop, beat, and synth punch was crystal clear and chest-thumping thanks to the venue’s ever-evolving commitment to top-tier audio production.
The visuals were next-level. Almost every track came with a costume change or character twist, from the unreal Disco Helmet during “Freck” (see our picture attached) to a Neon Suit lighting up “Game Over” like a human glow stick. It was weird, wild, and utterly brilliant.
The crowd was electric, as you’d expect on a bank holiday weekend. Bank Lane packed in shoulder-to-shoulder, bodies bouncing, arms flailing, with zero let-up in energy from start to finish. You could feel the floor move with the bass. And no one wanted it to end.
King Kong Company are an experience. A sweaty, joyful, explosion of noise and exactly the kind of night you talk about the next morning.
