Fakemink’s Dublin debut at The Academy on the 27th of May was the kind of show that makes you feel like you caught something early, even if the rest of the room already knew every word. The 21 yearold Essex-born artist only on his second album, brought his “A Terrible Beauty” European tour to a crowd that was ready for him from the first beat, and they gave it back tenfold.
The energy in the room was relentless. There was moshing from early on, and the crowd sang along throughout the entire set. Songs from Terrified. landed with the familiarity of anthems whipping the room into a frenzy. Moustafax2, fakemink’s close collaborator and the producer behind much of his catalogue, warmed up the crowd on DJ duties before the main set, keeping the energy simmering ahead of fakemink’s arrival on stage.
What came across most was how genuine the connection felt. Fakemink was all over the front of the stage throughout, reaching out to touch hands with the crowd and making it clear the love in the room was mutual.
