Ahead of her headline set at Manchester Pride and a debut performance at Reading & Leeds festival this weekend, Leigh-Anne turns up the heat with new single ‘Burning Up’. Produced by Elijah “GYW Eli” Ross (Leigh-Anne’s Been A Minute), Yonatan Watts (Ariana Grande) and Khaled Rohaim (Rihanna), the track sees her fully embrace her fiery, sultry side as she captures the intoxicating rush of love and freedom. Driven by pounding drums and Leigh-Anne’s distorted and textured vocals, ‘Burning Up’ draws influence from the sounds of her Caribbean heritage.
Speaking on ‘Burning Up’, Leigh-Anne said: “Burning Up came to life at a writing camp in New York with some of the most inspiring writers and producers I’ve ever worked with. We went in with no rules, just vibes and instinct. The beat hit me instantly; it felt euphoric, high-energy, but there was something emotional running through it too, which made it more than just a banger. I played with my voice in ways I never have before with different textures, phrasing, pushing my range. It really stretched me as an artist, and I think you can feel that in the track”
‘Burning Up’ continues this bold and exciting new era of freedom and control for Leigh-Anne and follows last month’s single ‘Been A Minute’ which CLASH hailed “a dose of summer pop exuberance”. Produced by Elijah “GYW Eli” Ross (Coco Jones, Lucky Daye, Tinashe) and Lasse Qvist, and co-written by Leigh-Anne, the single sampled the classic ‘Work’ by Masters at Work, blending its iconic vocal hook with Leigh-Anne’s slick vocals and dancehall rhythms. The accompanying music video (watch here), directed by Femi Lade (Pa Salieu, Jorja Smith, Stormzy), captured the unmistakable spirit of carnival in a sexy, celebratory fever dream. While Leigh-Anne’s stellar choreography and infectious energy take centre stage, the narrative takes a twist when a mysterious figure in red seizes control and replaces her.
These two tracks mark Leigh-Anne’s first new music since her 2024 EP ‘No Hard Feelings’, a captivating, deeply personal exploration of love that showcased her ability to skillfully blend her Bajan and Jamaican roots with contemporary R&B. The project was followed by a successful debut sold-out headline tour across the UK and Ireland. Earlier this month, Leigh-Anne kicked off her major summer festival run with a sensational performance at Boardmasters. Later this summer, she’ll headline Manchester Pride and Mighty Hoopla Malta, and make her Reading and Leeds festival debut this weekend. Full dates below:
