Wasp vs Humans marked the launch of their new album, The Day Homo Sapiens Destroyed The World, with an energetic afternoon performance at Cork’s Crane Lane yesterday.
Running from 4pm to 6pm, the gig offered a distinctive blend of live music, theatrical performance and spoken word. The Wils opened the afternoon, setting the tone before Wasp vs Humans took to the stage with a performance that felt as much like an experience as a conventional gig.
One of the most striking elements was the use of spoken word throughout the set. At various points, the singer Carl stepped away from the stage and moved among the audience, addressing different people directly and changing the delivery to suit each interaction. Rather than simply watching from the crowd, the audience became part of the performance, creating an intimate and unpredictable atmosphere.
The approach fitted naturally with the album’s provocative title and themes, while giving the afternoon a strong sense of occasion. With its combination of music, audience interaction and performance art, the album launch demonstrated Wasp vs Humans’ willingness to push beyond a straightforward live set and create something memorable for the crowd.
