Norrisette is an art-pop artist based in Manchester, UK. Her songs wrestle with everything from existential crisis to climate change, with comedy, heartbreak and surrealism along the way. Norrisette’s work encompasses composition, classical piano, music production, DJing, performance and visual design. Since her first gig at Deaf Institute in 2021, she has performed sets at Bluedot, Sounds From the Other City, and Manchester International Festival, and has supported artists such as Anna Meredith, Ezekiel, ((( O ))) and Haru Nemuri.
Mainly producing her own work, she has also been a featured vocalist with producers all over Europe. One of Norrisette’s self-produced tracks, Wild Being, was described by BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson as an ‘electronic noise fest’. Together with Industries, Norrisette set up FLUFF, a regular night for queer electronic music producers at Fuel, Withington. FLUFF has hosted the debut sets of many artists and has been mentioned in the Guardian for its role in the underground music scene in Manchester. Norrisette has recently formed her own band to explore new creative and collaborative landscapes, with Ashley Garrod on bass and Matthew Hill on drums.
“Stranger is a battle cry to stop beating yourself up. It started off as a kind of mindfulness thing, like ‘focus on your breath, don’t have a panic attack’ and it turned into this runaway rage fest. Everyone gets fed up of feeling like they’re going round and round in circles, but when you stop yourself and look out at everything there is, everything you’ve done, the earth, the sky, the living things around you, then maybe you can know that it’s good enough. That you don’t have to be perfect, you just have to be alive. I took Stranger to the band (Matt and Ash) and at first I was really shy about it, but they turned it into a sort of drum-and-bass banger. Then we sent it to the incredible producer Tayte Nickols who transformed it in the studio, and now this finished version was mixed by Lee at Sugarhouse, and mastered by the one and only Robin Schmidt whose credits include the 1975 and Elton John x Rina Sawayama. I can’t believe the journey it’s been on from a sketch at my piano to this!” …Norrisette
