Dáwna’s latest single “Wood From The Trees” out this coming Wednesday is a song that creeps under your skin and refuses to let go. It’s raw, it’s emotional, and it showcases everything that makes Dáwna an artist worth paying attention to.

The track explores the fog of a fractured relationship. It’s that familiar space between heart and head, where emotions blur and clarity feels just out of reach. The lyrics circle themes of regret, confusion, and longing, delivered with a raspy vocal that gives the whole thing a lived-in, honest feel. Dáwna delivers this in such a way that you can tell he feels it. And when you listen, so do you. The track starts off pretty calm but ramps up quickly too. The line “Can’t tell the wood from the trees” becomes a perfect metaphor for the emotional disorientation at the heart of the song. There’s something very relatable about not knowing where you stand in a relationship, and Dáwna captures that excellently.

Having heard the track live twice,  I can say that his voice, especially that raspy edge, is unreal. There’s a grit to it that adds weight to every word, and it makes even the simplest lines feel huge. The chorus is so, so, so catchy too. By the second listen, you’ll find yourself humming along.

As Dáwna shared at a gig, the phrase “baby I didn’t mean it” can hold anything, from a tiny mistake to full-blown betrayal, and that ambiguity makes the track all the more compelling and also makes the track relatable to many different listeners in many different situations.

I’ve had this on repeat the last few days, and it only gets better with each listen. If you haven’t discovered Dáwna yet, I’d encourage you to. He’s playing Dolan’s in October, and trust me, you’ll want to be there. He’s a naturally gifted, humble talent. Wood From The Trees is another great release from him. Do yourself a favour and give it a listen!
