The Struts frontman Luke Spiller – releases his solo album ‘Love Will Probably Kill Me Before Cigarettes And Wine’ today, you can now read our review here

If you’re familiar with Luke Spiller as the flamboyant frontman of The Struts , you might be surprised by his solo debut, ‘Love Will Probably Kill Me Before Cigarettes And Wine’. This album marks a departure from the high-energy glam rock of his band, venturing into a more mellow and cinematic sounds.

From the opening track, “Devil In Me,” Spiller sets the tone with orchestral arrangements and a vocal delivery that feels both grand and intimate. The title track, with its sweeping strings, wouldn’t feel out of place in a movie, think James Bond. This could also be a nod to Spiller’s admiration for classic Bond themes. This cinematic quality is evident throughout the album.

Tracks like “The Ending Is Always The Same” and “Don’t Be Afraid To Love Me” showcase Spiller’s willingness to delve into personal themes of love. He’s not afraid to be vulnerable on this record. These songs reveal a different side of the artist, one that’s more reflective and emotionally raw. I have seen some comments that the album’s theatricality can feel a bit overdone, potentially overshadowing the sincerity of the lyrics but then again this could be the real side of Luke we hardly ever see.

Collaborating with producers Jon Levine and Jason Faulkner, Spiller crafts a sound that’s distinct from his work with The Struts. The album serves as a platform for him to explore musical influences ranging from Scott Walker to Lana Del Rey, resulting in a collection that’s both nostalgic and fresh.

”Love Will Probably Kill Me Before Cigarettes and Wine” is a bold and ambitious solo debut that showcases Luke Spiller’s versatility as an artist. While it may not be every listener’s cup of tea, especially those expecting the high-octane energy of The Struts, it’s a compelling exploration of love, loss, and self-discovery.

”Love Will Probably Kill Me Before Cigarettes and Wine” got some love with a 7.5 out of 10

Rating: 7.5 out of 10.
