Following the release of their debut single Heavy, Irish folk-rock band The Fynches return with I Will Follow, the second single from their forthcoming self-titled debut album, due out October 7th, 2025.
The brainchild of Ferdia Walsh-Peelo (lead vocals and guitar) and Oisiìn Walsh-Peelo (vocals and keys), The Fynches also comprise Camryn Teehan (drums), Fionn O’Neill (bass), and Julia-Maria (cello). Vocal melodies and soulful keys meet vibrant guitar lines, soaring strings, and a powerful rhythm section.
Characterised by its Beatles-inspired arrangement, I Will Follow is melodic and playful. Its rhyming, rhythmic, catchy vow of a chorus stands out, driven by a tight bassline and crisp, syncopated drums with rich vocal harmonies threading through the mix. Brass and strings fuse together with jangled guitar to build the song up to a full-blown, full-band finish.
Speaking on the track, Oisín says “‘I Will Follow’ came from a year that myself and Ferdia lived together in Dublin. We were writing a lot at that time and loved the idea of a groove that completely changes key and feel for the chorus.
It took a good few permutations of the song before I think we pulled it off. Having the bigger live band for our tour in 2024 was the first time we played it live and the jam-sections really took root and kicked off until this became our show-finisher.
The mid 8 is very Motown-inspired. A style of singing I love to do but don’t have much cause to get in to in a live context. We were thinking of Gladys Knight and the Pips when writing that section. It almost needs its own dance moves!”
Brothers Ferdia and Oisín were raised in a musical family in County Wicklow. Composer and arranger Oisín honed his skills touring and recording with bands such as Villagers, Flyte, Hudson Taylor, and Bombay Bicycle Club. A natural frontman, Ferdia found fame on the silver screen starring in Sing Street, as well as roles in the multi-Oscar-winning film CODA, Pistol (Danny Boyle), and Four Letters of Love (starring Pierce Brosnan and Helena Bonham-Carter).
The Fynches spent much of 2024 hunkered down in the studio together refining tracks. Now, these musical blueprints have developed into a full statement album, set for release on 7th October 2025. With brooding ballads, raucous crowd pleasers, and even a requiem interlude, the band’s début is marked by dynamism, playfulness, and musical virtuosity. Uncommonly, brothers Ferdia and Oisín sometimes exchange lead vocal duties across songs – at times even verses – balancing their timbres in synergy.
By self-titling the release of The Fynches the band are stamping the mark of their identity. With the prolific work ethic of Ferdia and Oisín, and a hoard of material already in wait, this album fires the starting gun for what is to come from The Fynches.
The Fynches’ previous single releases have been received to critical acclaim, with radio play (RTÉ Radio 1) and lively TV performances (RTÉ One’s The Late Late Show, Fanning At Whelans), as well as spirited appearances at some of Ireland’s most iconic venues. In 2023, they completed their first Irish tour, swiftly followed by an unforgettable show with The Coronas at King John’s Castle in Limerick.
With the live band now in place, the brothers songcraft has been able to shift from the studio to the blaze of the stage. The Fynches are a band that come into their own under the lights, earning them a reputation as an electrifying live act, set to embark on an extensive, full-band tour of Ireland in November, with UK and European tour dates in 2026.
