It’s not every day that British indie bands and classic spaghetti westerns are seen walking hand in hand. Enter The Gallows, the debut EP from Geordie indie rockers, The Avelons. Following Blondie’s thunderous debut back in November 2023 (the first single released from the EP), the lads are back with a conceptual three-track release that takes listeners on a cinematic journey through anxiety, excitement, deceit, greed, and vengeance.
Firing up the record is impact single ‘The Prequel’, a track brimming with adrenaline, anticipation, and the exhilarating sensation of being chased.
The band comment:
‘The Prequel is the opening haymaker in our spaghetti-western inspired trilogy EP. It’s a powerful smack in the face, letting you know what you’re in for. Setting the scene for what is to come in a punchy, dynamic, furious 4 minutes.’
They then dive back into the world of Blondie, with a forceful, fierce, and thunderous return. The EP concludes with The Gallows, an anthemic yet surreal final track that feels like it’s been transported straight from ’90s neo-psychedelic Britpop into the heart of modern indie rock.
On The Gallows EP, frontman Jack Oldham states:
“Having previously released Blondie, I became obsessed with this character we’d half-borrowed, half-created. I wanted to embellish his tale. I wanted to hear the beauty of the classic western film in an all-out, ballsy British indie format!”
