Dublin shoegaze/psych juggernauts Sun Mahshene today release their anthemic new single, ‘Waves’.
2025 saw the five-piece deliver electrifying opening sets for The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Underground Youth alongside shows at Vantastival, The Crowbar Terrace and more, before releasing their colossal single ‘Life Is Joy’ (RTÉ 2FM, Hot Press, The Thin Air, The GOO and more) to close out a defining year.
The band will perform their first German show on February 21st at loge., Berlin, with special guests BLKE. Tickets available here.
Merging introspection with sonic grandeur, debut album “A Place We’ve Never Been”, launched the five-piece to national prominence in 2024, subsequently earning them an exclusive slot supporting American shoegaze kings The Brian Jonestown Massacre in Dublin’s 3Oylmpia theatre and Belfast’s Ulster Hall.
Carving a reputation for their visceral live shows and uncompromising sound, previous single ‘Life Is Joy’, saw Sun Mahshene push their boundaries, teasing a heavier sound while staying true to the raw emotional heart of rock’n’roll that drives their evolving discography.
The single ‘Waves’ is another brick in their towering wall of sound, sitting at the intersection of shoegaze, psych, and grand atmospheric rock, balancing scale, mood, and emotional defiant weight. The single was recorded at Trackmix Studio, Dublin with Michael Richards, with mixing and mastering by James Aparicio. About the single, the band explain: “‘Waves’ captures the tension of reaching an age where life is supposed to make sense—only to find the plan unraveling. It reflects on expectations and uncertainty when a curveball derails everything you thought you had figured out. Honest and introspective, the track speaks to anyone learning to redefine success when life refuses to follow the script.”
Ever-expansive and emotionally charged, ‘Waves’ is a cool, confident new release that distills the euphoric energy of Sun Mahshene’s live performances.
