Australian indie-rock outfit Spacey Jane played to a sold-out 3Olympia Theatre on Wednesday night, marking the band’s biggest Irish show to date.
Following some minor technical setbacks, the band eventually launched into “Through My Teeth” – the euphoric opener set the tone for the night. Shimmering guitars wrapped around lyrics that balance self-doubt and hope with an effortless sincerity. The group have always had a knack for writing songs that sound like freedom, but feel like confession. That duality came across perfectly on stage.
Caleb Harper’s vocals carry an unmistakably warm, vulnerable, human tone. There’s something about his delivery that makes even their biggest sounding moments feel personal – as if every lyric is shared, rather than simply performed.
The setlist leaned heavily on their latest album, “If That Makes Sense”, proving the record’s huge success. Tracks like “Whateverrr” and “Estimated Delivery” pulled the venue into full-blown singalong and the front row gave it everything they had. When “Lots of Nothing” and “Booster Seat” showed up, the atmosphere hit another level. The mix of nostalgia and pure release hit us all. Those tracks – already staples of the indie-rock canon, sounded renewed and alive in the hands of a band who are now firm favourites on the international stage.
Support on the night came from Mia Wray, who the audience took to immediately. We wouldn’t be surprised to see her back in Dublin soon with plenty of fans of her own.
