Somebody’s Child – start what promises to be a huge year for the band with anthemic new single ‘Last Night I Held Your Hand’ Out today you can read our review here

Somebody’s Child kicks off 2025 in style with “Last Night I Held Your Hand,” the second single from their highly anticipated sophomore album, When Youth Fades Away. Blending heartfelt lyrics with Americana-inspired influences, the song showcases Somebody’s Childs signature sound while charting fresh territory.

The track begins with the somewhat understated, soft but still raw vocals from frontman Cian Godfrey, drawing listeners in immediately. There is a sense of  intimacy that gradually builds in intensity. A standout drumbeat anchors the song, while the expert production delivers an excellent stereo balance, making it a must-listen for audiophiles. As the track unfolds, Godfrey’s voice becomes bolder, pulling the listener into the story and delivering a performance full of raw, relatable passion. By the midway part of this track I was focused so much on his vocal ability I was hardly listening to the backing instrumental.

The lyrics explore themes of love, youth, and personal change, with standout lines like, “And I thought my youth was over / Now I’d die for you / Now I feel myself get older / But not when I’m with you.” The song’s chorus is infectious, pairing melodic hooks with rich instrumentation, particularly the dynamic drum work that drives the energy forward.

“Last Night I Held Your Hand” builds on the success of the band’s breakout single, “Time Of My Life,” and signals a bold step forward for the Dublin-based group. Somebody’s Child social media following is a testament to their rising influence, with fans always engaging in posts and celebrating every new release.

Recorded in the U.S. with Grammy-winning producer Peter Katis (The National, Interpol), When Youth Fades Away explores themes of aging and perspective, a concept Godfrey describes as, “staying put and reflecting on life.” This theme is woven throughout “Last Night I Held Your Hand,” which introduces listeners to the album’s balance of innocence and maturity.
