Its that weekend of the year were everything goes green on this little island of Ireland, yes it St Patricks weekend or Paddy’s weekend and festivals are happening all over the country one of the main ones being the Kilkenny Tradfest which kicked off last night in style with a fantastic concert from Sharon Shannon, what made this evening more special not only was it in St Canice’s Cathedral but the stage was set under the moon.
Now Under the Moon is an instalment of a massive moon with hangs from the ceiling and lights up (see photos). The installment is call Museum of the Moon and incidentally by the luck of the gods there was to be a lunar eclipse last night make of that what you will.
Sharon and friends took the stage as 8 o clock struck and started in to a love relaxed set of trad and the whole Cathedral was a buzz as every seat in the house was taken and thankfully someone had the heating making for a beautiful cosy setting for such a night! As outside was a different story.
As billed this was to be a once in a lifetime performance and that it was!
