English pop-rock band Scouting for Girls currently on tour across the UK and Ireland kicked off their first of a two-night stint in Dublin’s The Academy on Friday February 27th. Support on the night came from Swedish band The Souls and Leeds brother duo The Dunwells.
Typical of this venue the crowd trickled in from 7pm gradually filling out the room during the opening sets but there wasn’t an inch to move when our headliner came to stage just before 9pm. This current Scouting for Girls tour is celebrating the 15th anniversary of their album Everybody Wants To Be On TV, as iconic a title as the tracklist itself for any 2000s music fans. As such, the playlist on the night was packed out with the hits from the album, closing out the night with their 2007 debut single ‘She’s So Lovely’.
I was so quick to request covering this show, as I had always been a fan of this group and I love nothing more than that singer-songwriter-musician combo we were treated to with bands of the 2000s like Scouting for Girls, McFly and Busted which provided the soundtrack to my youth. Hence, nothing is a greater joy than being able to listen to three great bands emulating that nostalgic 2000s sound in the one night, which this gig absolutely delivered. I left the Academy with a spring in my step, humming away to ‘Famous’ as I made my way back to the car, stuck on my 2000s playlist ready to relive such a memorable night with my camera as I drove the long road home that night.
A show that can be enjoyed by everyone who enjoys great music and even better vibes. Would recommend!
