Acclaimed Irish singer- songwriter RuthAnne returns with her deeply moving new single, “Older,”.
An intimate and heartfelt tribute to her father, the song sees RuthAnne reflect on love, the reversal of roles and watching the one you love grow old.
The acclaimed Irish independent artist captures the bittersweet emotions that come with shifting into another gear when you see a parent become more vulnerable. The piano-led ballad, effortlessly showcases RuthAnne’s vocal tones, her ability to turn her emotions into beautifully crafted storytelling.
Speaking about the record RuthAnne says; Older” came from watching my dad get older and realising that, somewhere along the way, our roles had started to change. He has COPD, and I’ve watched someone who always looked after me begin to need looking after himself.
There’s something really hard about seeing your parents become more vulnerable. In your head they’re still the people who were always there, who knew what to do, who made you feel safe. Then one day you realise you’re worrying about them in the way they used to worry about you.
I think “Older” is me trying to process that shift, but more than anything, it’s about not really feeling ready for it. Wanting him to get better. Wanting more time. And wishing, somehow, that the people you love didn’t have to get older
“Older” – marks an emotional return for the artist, whose, whose distinctive voice and deeply personal approach to music have resonated with audiences throughout her career.
RuthAnne has amassed over 200 million Spotify streams, placing her among the most-streamed Irish female artists currently, right alongside contemporaries such as CMAT and Orla Gartland.
She has built a deeply loyal and rapidly growing fanbase of over 250,000 followers across social platforms, driven in large part by her evergreen song ‘The Vow’, which has become a global staple for weddings and engagements.
The Vow” has become a modern wedding and engagement staple, used in thousands of celebrations around the world every year since its release and has gone viral multiple times across TikTok, Spotify and Instagram, reaching an incredible one billion streams on TikTok this summer— a remarkable milestone for an Independent Irish female artist.
Its success has translated to the charts too, breaking into the Top 40 of the UK Official Charts, reaching No. 1 on Irish iTunes twice, and holding the No. 2 spot on UK iTunes for an entire week.
But perhaps the most special part of “The Vow” is the role it has come to play in people’s biggest life moments. From being performed live for Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury’s engagement, to Lake Como for Rochelle and Marvin Humes’ wedding vow renewal, and Jesse Lingard choosing the song for a post celebrating his children, “The Vow” has travelled far beyond its original release.
Years later, it continues to find new audiences, soundtrack weddings, engagements and family milestones across the world, and take on a life of its own. What began as one song has become something of a modern-day cult classic — and its enduring connection with listeners shows no sign of slowing down.
Her own music has achieved an extraordinary440,000 organic videos using her songs to soundtrack life’s biggest moments — a testament to the emotional resonance and global reach of her voice, artistry and songs which continue to go viral year after year.
