Rising Nashville star Dee White releases a special version of his new single ‘Green River Rye’ featuring three of Ireland’s most exciting up-and-coming folk and trad musicians: Lorraine Nash, Laura Jo (Biird) and Kaitlin Cullen-Verhauz (Saltaire, De Dannan).
‘Green River Rye (Ireland Mix)’ is now available across all streaming platforms exclusively in Ireland and the UK – a fortnight before it receives its worldwide release alongside the original Nashville mix of ‘Green River Rye’ on 6th May..
The collaboration was born out of White’s visit to Ireland in January, where he was attending the Your Roots Are Showing music conference and performing at the Folk iN Fusion concert in Belfast alongside Nashville legends such as Amy Grant, Mac McAnally and Jim Lauderdale, as well as Irish folk icons such as Wallis Bird and David Keenan.
While in Belfast, White met Lorraine, Laura-Jo and Kaitlin–all showcasing artists at the conference–and booked a studio in Dublin to record a version of ‘Green River Rye’ that features flute (Nash), banjo (Laura Jo), and cello (Cullen-Verhauz, as well as backing vocals by all three.
Dee White says: “I first discovered Green River Rye whiskey during a hunting trip to Kentucky. The bottle instantly caught my eye — it was the same one I remembered from an antique lithograph that hung in my childhood home. At the time, my girlfriend had just left me, and the chorus melody had already popped into my head. That night, I was hanging out with my buddies Jimmy Law and Brian Murray. They loved the idea, so the three of us got together and finalized the music and lyrics. The very next evening, we went into the studio and recorded it as an acoustic trio in Nashville.box
“More recently, while in Ireland, my team and I felt the song would suit a traditional Irish folk arrangement beautifully. After meeting three incredibly talented Irish musicians at the conference, we booked time at Vault Studios in Dublin and recorded the ‘Live in Dublin’ version. A huge thank you to Lorraine Nash, Laura Jo and Kaitlin Cullen-Verhauz for being part of this unforgettable recording experience.”
That ‘Green River Rye (Irish Mix)’ is being made available exclusively in Ireland and the UK ahead of its global release truly is testament to the strength of the connections that Dee White and his team forged in Belfast, which is twinned with their city of Nashville. This is just the beginning of the artist’s intention to tour more extensively in Ireland, Europe and the UK.
