Richard Hawley / Kieran O’Connell – 3Olympia, Dublin 24.05.2024

Richard Hawley has gifted Dublin with two (almost sold out) shows in the 3Olympia.

Hailing from Sheffield, a city bursting with talents with such bands as Pulp, Arctic Monkeys, The human league, Def Leppard and Moloko (1/2 Irish). It was no surprise to see a large street sign up front and centre (well actually a little off to the right) stating “Welcome To Sheffield”.

I was a little surprised with the age group at the show, me being possibly the youngest in the crowd. I was thinking to see a good mix but none the less, the crowd was hoping around and the excitement was in the air. One lady up the front screaming as if it was Lennon coming out on stage.

Regardless of it not being one of the fab 4, we were still in the presence of an absolute legend. Hawley has been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, He is a Brit nominee and received a south bank award in 2007 along with best musical for his very own musical “Standing at the sky’s edge”. Hawley has also appeared alongside some amazing artists including two of my favourites. He features on the track by Arctic Monkeys “U and I” and also appears on Elbow’s Album “The Seldom Seen Kid” on the track “The Fix”.

Was great to have the opportunity to see this man on stage and I cannot wait for the new album “In This City They Call You Love”. Set to release at the end of this month.

Before Hawley Stepped out on stage, we had support from Kieran O’Connell from Co. Claire.

Distant sounds of Mark Knoffler with a twist of Cristy Moore,  Kieran O Connell came out to greet us in a very timid manner but with powerful music. Leading the pack with his acoustic in hand.

From country Claire and a farmer at heart, Kieran was in awe of supporting Hawley in the 3Olympia.

A beautiful set, and a genuinely sound lad, I was glad to catch him live.
