Public Image Ltd (PiL) / Ash / Kerbdog – live gallery and review from Live At Castle Mills, Kilkenny 17.07.2026

The debut edition of Live At Castle Mills proved that Kilkenny has found a spectacular new home for live music. Held on Friday, 17 July 2026, the first official event transformed the private grounds just off Canal Walk in Dukesmeadows into one of the most picturesque concert settings in the country, setting a high standard for what promises to hopefully become a staple of the summer live music calendar.

Tucked away from the bustle of the city, Castle Mills feels like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Surrounded by mature trees and bordered on one side by the River Nore, the venue offers a unique natural backdrop that instantly sets it apart from the typical outdoor concert site. Blessed with glorious sunshine and temperatures climbing into the high twenties, fans could hardly have wished for better conditions. The warm weather, relaxed atmosphere and stunning surroundings combined to create the perfect setting for the first of two evenings of live music.

Opening the historic first Live At Castle Mills were Kilkenny’s own Kerbdog, who received a hero’s welcome from the home crowd. Their powerful set reminded everyone why they remain one of Ireland’s most respected alternative rock bands, delivering plenty of energy to kick start the afternoon.

Northern Ireland favourites Ash followed with a crowd pleasing performance packed with the infectious hooks and anthems that have made them festival favourites for decades. Their polished set kept the momentum building as the audience soaked up the evening sunshine.

Closing the night were legendary post punk pioneers Public Image Ltd, performing as part of their This Is Not the Last Tour. Fronted by the ever charismatic John Lydon, PiL delivered a commanding headline performance that blended classic material with the band’s unmistakable experimental edge, providing a fitting finale to a landmark occasion.

For a first outing, Live At Castle Mills couldn’t have gone much better. A beautiful setting, flawless summer weather and a line up featuring Kerbdog, Ash and Public Image Ltd combined to create an unforgettable opening chapter. If this inaugural event is anything to go by, Castle Mills has every ingredient to become one of Ireland’s premier outdoor music venues.
