Pretty Sick – share the new single “Hyper Independence”

NYC bassist, vocalist, and songwriter Pretty Sick (AKA Sabrina Fuentes) has just shared her new single “Hyper Independence” — out now via Dirty Hit. Over a kick drum and a room-shaking bassline, Fuentes sings about wanting to build a life with someone who keeps her at arm’s length,weighing the pull of self-protection against what it costs to need no one. The track sits fifth on her upcoming sophomore album Anarchy (out September 11th) and arrives alongside the news that she’ll be embarking on a headlining tour in support of the project this fall, which kicks off on November 1st in Washington, D.C.

Fuentes recorded the bulk of Anarchy with producer Oscar Scheller (Lily Allen,PinkPantheress) in Los Angeles, building a maximal rock-electronic hybrid that draws from indiepop, shoegaze, and rap. She opened the run with 2025 single “Star”, then announced the project in June alongside “home2hide”, co-produced with Scheller and Frost Children. Across the album, she leans on crystalline synths, heavy beats, and noshortage of distortion, which she uses as both a musical and emotional tool — resulting in a collection of songs that bridge electronic experimentation with raw feeling. But even as Fuentes ascends, her loyalty remains to the underground scenes that shaped her: “Not caring to follow rules,” she says, “or meet expectations for any reason other than doing things for yourself — that’s the through line.”
