NYC bassist, vocalist, and songwriter Pretty Sick (AKA Sabrina Fuentes) has returned with her new single “Star”— out now via Dirty Hit along with an accompanying music video. A raw, guitar-driven outing highlighted by blasé musings on her burgeoning fame (“I take drugs/I get paid”), “Star” features production from Oscar Scheller (Charli xcx, PinkPantheress) and ushers in a new era for the NYC cult hero, stamping her first new music in over a year. In addition to her recent run opening for beabadoobee on her headline The Space In Between Tour, the song follows features in The New York Times, The FACE, Office Magazine, and AnOther Magazine as well as the release of last year’s Streetwise EP, an electronic pop-tinted project produced by Drain Gang affiliate Woesum(Yung Lean, Oklou). She also recently launched her P.S. by Pretty Sick clothing brand, a line designed by Fuentes herself that is available both online and in Heaven by Marc Jacobs stores.
A visionary artist who cut her teeth in New York’s underground, Pretty Sick has built a devoted following for her intimate, diaristic songwriting, genre-agonistic production, and electric live performances. She first turned heads with projects like Deep Divine and Come Down before cementing a name for herself with her Paul Kolderie (Pixies, Radiohead)-produced debut album, Makes Me Sick Makes Me Smile, in 2022. The album proved to be a breakout moment for Fuentes, who spent the following months touring with indie heavyweights beabadoobee and Yves Tumor in addition to modeling for Heaven by Marc Jacobs.
