Planningtorock released their new single ‘Get Your Fckin Laws Off My Body’ in a new partnership with emerging label Listen Generously and legendary queer events collective The Chateau.
‘Get Your Fckin Laws Off My Body’ opens with Planningtorock (aka Jam Rostron) repeating the line “get, off, my, body”, a statement that echoes throughout the single alongside euphoric synths juxtaposed with thumping bass. This protest anthem, written and produced by Jam, sees them lament about the need to protect our physical autonomy – a particularly personal call to action given that this is their first release since having their gender affirming top surgery in 2022.
Speaking about the track, Jam explains “Our bodies are a gift and our autonomy is our right. This song was originally created to help support the fight to ban the so-called conversion therapy, which sadly the UK government have again failed to do. It produced to make us feel empowered and our autonomy seen as the campaign against these abusive practices continues.”
As Jam explains, this release draws attention to the ongoing fight to ban “conversion therapy” – a brutal and inhumane act that the government has promised to ban but has still yet to act upon – that is still rife across the UK (and beyond) that aims to “cure” queer people of their queerness. The activist intentions of the song should come as no surprise to fans given that Jam’s music has always been a vehicle for discussion around important subjects such as gender expression, sexuality, identity and equality – their 2013 release ‘Human Drama’ saw them deliver lines such as “The personal is so political, Gimme a human drama, It kinda feels like gender’s just a lie” which was interpolated from the essay written by Carol Hanisch 1970.
Planningtorock teased the new single at their recent club night/protest rave at Peckham Audio earlier this month which saw DJ sets from Lewis G. Burton, Waxwings and DJ XZAN – giving space for queer, trans* and non-binary people to celebrate their bodies in all forms.
Earlier this year they performed at the False Idols day party at Drumsheds and this summer they will be heading Glastonbury festival to perform at the London Trans+ Pride x The Chateau party at Shangri-La.
