With the curtain having barely fallen on their largely sold-out Don’t Quit Your Day Job tour, Cardiff’s Panic Shack return today with a fresh taster of their incoming debut album due out July 18th on Brace Yourself Records. This time out, it’s the album’s ride-or-die closer ‘Thelma & Louise‘ getting an airing, an ode to the tight knit friendships that have defined Panic Shack from day dot.
The album’s only love song – and in this case an ode to adoring your best mates – ‘Thelma & Louise’ is Panic Shack at their most immediate and infectious, a joyous pop tune whose notions of hitting the road arrive with perfect timing at the beginning of summer. Of the track, the band say:
“‘Thelma & Louise’ is the first love song we’ve ever written (and will probably be the last). It’s an ode to female friendships and how they’re often more fulfilling than romantic relationships. We were inspired to write this song after watching the feminist masterpiece that is Thelma & Louise. It resonated with us so much because we’re quite frankly obsessed with each other. There are a million songs about love interests and broken hearts and we thought it was about time we championed being in love with your best friends. Roll down the windows, crank up the volume and scream at the top of your lungs.”
It comes accompanied by a video that finds the band hitting the road Thelma & Louise-style – shot by Ren Faulkner – with the ionic bond between the quartet of girls there for all to see.
