Josephine and Anthony of Oh Wonder have been crafting some of the most infectious pop ballads of the last decade from the comfort of their home studio in London. The couple appeared closer than ever on stage at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre, marking ten years since their debut self-titled album with a run of intimate shows featuring acoustic and piano renditions of their classics.
Taking the stage side by side at a Steinway grand piano, they opened with “Body Gold,” “Dazzle,” and the more recent “Ultralife”. Midway through the set, a heart-warming moment unfolded during “White Blood,” when Josephine handed her violin to a fan in the crowd who revealed they could play – and play they did. Phones shot up instantly to capture the moment, one that perfectly embodied the charm that makes an Oh Wonder live show so special.
Though this stripped-back concert lacked the lush production and lighting design of their previous tours, it was intentional – a celebration of songwriting over spectacle. With over three years since their last release, it was no surprise to see the venue filled almost exclusively with long-time fans, who sang along to every word.
Having previously graced Dublin stages from The Academy to the Olympia, Oh Wonder’s return carried the warmth of old friends reunited. If this night was anything to go by, we can look forward with confidence that Josephine and Anthony will be back again soon.
Support on the evening came from Scarlett Loran.
