Not Richard & Her Majesty – have released their debut EP ‘Not Hot’ and the lead track ‘Everything Explodes’

Brighton-based band Not Richard & Her Majesty have released their debut EP ‘Not Hot‘.

Richard explains:

“Not Richard is Not Hot.
10 bands, 5 breakups & 2 breakdowns later, he is barely even Richard.
This project is a diary of personal, professional, sexual, financial & gender ruin.
So if you enjoy violent oversharing set to a disparate overture of 60s sunshine pop…THIS the band you’ve been waiting for… If not, you have great mental health. Well done!

They also shared the video for the lead track ‘Everything Explodes‘.

Talking about the video, which features actual footage of his parents’ wedding, Richard says: “As soon as we chose that song for a single, I knew it was going to be a wedding video. Watching the footage from my parents made me so uncomfortable. I’ve only known them to be so angry and disappointed by their relationship and each other, so watching them in tears of joy was deeply strange – as sad as it felt pathetic. The irony of that event feels so on point with the lyrics that I find it hard to divorce them from each other now. So to speak.”.

The EP, recorded in Brighton and produced by Jamie Hall from Tigercub, features what Jamie describes as “emotionally raw classics. They’re nostalgic, cathartic, and dark, like The Shangri-Las covering songs by The Birthday Party”.
