On Thursday, April 24, 2025, internationally renowned musician and activist Moby announced the relaunch of mobygratis at NeueHouse Hollywood. Powered by Little Walnut Productions, mobygratis now offers independent musicians, DJs, filmmakers, choreographers, songwriters, and all creatives access to 500 brand-new instrumental tracks, with 250 more coming later this year and another 500 slated for 2026.
As part of the relaunch event, Moby appeared in conversation with Los Angeles Times pop music critic Mikael Wood and multi-hyphenate artist Vince Staples to discuss the platform’s evolution and cultural impact. Moby also shared the platform’s new high-resolution multitrack capabilities, which allow users to remix and customize tracks like never before. The audience drew in a diverse crowd of the community, including students and creatives, eager to explore how mobygratis can support projects from class assignments to independent films.
“During the pandemic, I went into my archives and ‘finished’ around 1,500 unreleased songs for mobygratis,” said Moby. “They’re all instrumentals, and my hope is that people can find the music and do whatever they want with it; remix it, sing on it, use it for films, choreography, social posts, whatever. Hopefully, mobygratis is egalitarian chaos at its most open and unregulated. We’ve also included links to some of my favorite charities, so people can pay it forward if they’re moved to.”
The relaunch of mobygratis offers creators unrestricted access to high-quality compositions. Hundreds of tracks now include high-resolution multitrack files in WAV formats which enable complete customization and remixing. The platform also features an improved search function which streamlines finding tracks based on mood and style.
“Free is a simple concept. mobygratis is just free,” said Moby. “There are no strings, no structure to generate revenue, just music, made available for anyone who wants to create.”
Since launching in 2005, mobygratis has supported over 50,000 independent films and media projects, becoming a go-to resource for budget-conscious creators. It remains entirely free to use and offers no commercial benefit to Moby—only the satisfaction of supporting creative freedom. Moby’s music has appeared in major productions including “Stranger Things,” “Heat,” “The Bourne Identity,” “The Equalizer,” “James Bond,” and “The Crown.”
