Max Cooper brought his mesmerizing ‘3D/AV’ show to The Button Factory this weekend. Cooper, who has a PhD in Computational Biology, invited us into a sensory playground that was obviously inspired by his scientific background.
The evening began with a gentle crescendo of ambient textures, slowly drawing the audience into Cooper’s meticulously crafted world. The space was transformed into an immersive 3D environment with stunning visuals projected onto the walls. As the night progressed, the intensity of both the music and visuals grew as we were encouraged to reflect on what it means to exist in the intersection of nature and machine.
Walking away from the performance, I couldn’t help but feel that Max Cooper has redefined what is possible in live shows. I thought I had witnessed the ‘peak’ in audiovisual genius with the likes of The Chemical Brothers on their most recent tour, but this show blew me away like nothing I have ever seen before.
