Following the release of his debut vinyl collection, Secrets From The First Floor, London-based ascending rock star Matt-Felix is back with his latest offering, ‘All You Need’, a rousing rock ballad that sees Matt-Felix delve deeper into this fiercely dark, emotive sonic realm.
Centred around crisp piano, sweeping guitars and Matt-Felix’s unmistakably rich vocal delivery, ‘All You Need’ is expansive in sound yet deeply personal at its core. Exploring themes of perseverance, resilience, and refusing to let go of ambition in the face of uncertainty, the track builds towards a stirring and emotionally charged release.
Built from a dream that lingered long after waking, the track became a reflection on defiance and inner strength. Speaking on the inspiration behind the single, Matt-Felix explains, “‘All You Need’ started off with a dream I had, about a near-empty theatre I was about to walk onto with my band. I guess it symbolises defiance and not letting your dream die and having the strength to push forward.”
He continues, “I recorded it with my band in Dalston with Josh Tyrell, who also mixed it, all done pretty quickly. We kept some of the elements of my original home demo recording, such as some guitars and synths.”
Bringing a true showmanship to his performances, Matt-Felix creates an atmosphere that feels dramatically cinematic. Both commanding and steeped in poetic moodiness, drawing comparisons to artists in a similar vein to Nick Cave and Alex Turner. On 9 July, fans can catch Matt-Felix as one of the first acts to perform at the newly reinstated legendary venue Barfly Camden (formerly Camden Assembly). Tickets for the headline show are available here.
This summer, fans can also catch Matt-Felix on the summer Festival circuit. Fresh from playing a stellar set at Neighbourhood Weekender, he has just been announced for Latitude Festival, where he will open the Second Stage on the Sunday. He will also perform at Kendal Calling.
Last month, Matt-Felix released Secrets From The First Floor – a double LP gatefold vinyl that brings together his debut and sophomore EPs, Kingdom Of You & Me and Dark Enough To See. The collection features two brand-new exclusive tracks, ‘Nightmares & Queens and ‘Stay With Me Now’, offering fans both a retrospective and a glimpse into his ever-evolving sound – order here.
