“My Oh My is a song about hope. We must keep faith, because hope and resilience is what drives change, and we have to hold on to it. It’s about freedom for every country suffering the consequences of hegemony and the greed for power. It’s also about freedom for all animals, and an end to suffering in all its forms.”
“My Oh My” is the new single from Shooting Daggers, the band that never seems to stop. Sal, Bea and Raquel are one of the hardest working outfits out there, constantly playing shows and lending their support to myriad causes all around the U.K. and Europe.
So, it’s always an exciting prospect when the band takes some time out from the maelstrom to write and record new material.
And two years on from the release of their acclaimed debut album ‘Love & Rage’ the band recently announced their new mini-album ‘The Real Life Thing’ set for release on 5th June (New Heavy Sounds).
Recorded at Bear Bites Horse Studio with Wayne Adams (Big Lad, Green Lung),
‘The Real Life Thing’ is the latest hardcore sonic missive from one of London’s must-see bands, and it absolutely does not disappoint. Shooting Daggers are the real deal; the best, and most exciting and adventurous hardcore-inspired band in the country. A ‘mini album‘. 7 songs and 20 minutes of driving rocket fuelled punk meets melody picking up from their debut to go further into their own space, featuring special guests in the form of ‘The Menstrual Cramps’ and Dennis Lyxzén from Refused.
For new single “My Oh My” released at a time when the world feels dark and overwhelming, the band wanted to create a video that shows why it’s important to remain hopeful. They state,
“Focusing on the beauty around us can help us feel grounded and reminds us to keep fighting for a better future and that, if we come together, real change is possible.
With this video we wanted to capture the everyday beauty that surrounds us. Sal has this cool old handheld video camera that she brings with her every time we travel with the band to always filming around . The original idea was to use some of that footage to make the video but unfortunately we realised most of it was lost just a few weeks away from the deadline we had planned, so we had to think of a way to make it happen regardless.
We filmed most of the main footage in one day, we met and went to all of our favourite spots. We were so lucky, it was a beautiful sunny day after weeks of rain, we ate delicious vegan food in the park and ended the day playing scrabble at the local pub. We had the best time making this happen. Raquel filmed most of the B roll, carrying that little camera around everywhere with her for a few days and trying to capture all the small, beautiful moments we encounter in daily life.
There are so many little moments that can be easily missed, even simply on our way to and back from work, and it’s often because we’re too busy looking at our phones or caught up in our own thoughts to truly appreciate them. We asked our friend Fernando J Martinez to bring our ideas and vision together, as we loved the work he did on our single Wipe Out, and again he didn’t disappoint!”
The Real Life Thing will be released by New Heavy Sounds on limited edition shiny black vinyl and digital on June 5th.
