So it was Sunday and like all festival the tiredness is creeping in but we push it back and keep going as its another day of music in the city of Kilkenny. First up for me was Cosmic Country Revue to slide into the day with so ease and psychedelic country and ambient Americana, which worked a treat to blow the creeping fatigue away.
So after being revitalised and a new lease of life i rambled across town to Set Theatre for a sold-out show from The Handsome Family, it was kind of odd seeing these in the daylight, even something Rennie Sparks commented on, the fact he doesn’t like playing in the daylight lol.
After this it was just up the road to Billy Byrnes Gastro Bar & Venue to catch Cork native John Blek. John has always been a favourite of mine so I was happy to have been woken up by the Cosmic guys and John didn’t disappoint either once I got there.
It was break time and with that time to grab some food, so staying in Billy where the food is always good I grabbed a pizza and waited for the next show to come around and it was Brown Horse again and still in Billys at 6pm. Doors opened at 5.30pm and word had spread over the weekend as to how good these guys were as this was their third show of the weekend and the room soon filled up.
Another bit of await till the next show and another walk back across the river over to Kytelers Inn to catch Sam Outlaw. opening for same was one of his guitarists who goes by the name of M Dunton. M played a 20 minute set of solo acoustic tunes warming up the audience nicely, before Sam and the band took the stage to play their country/honky-tonk in the surroundings of this Inn once owned by Dame Alice de Kyteler in the 13th. Century, who back then Her enemies conspired to accuse her of witchcraft and have her burned at the stake (look her up).
The last show of the night for me anyway had come and it was back to The Set Theatre where this time it was the turn of John Blek and the Rats, a band John was part of before going solo and again another show I was so looking forward to as its been awhile since I had seen the full band in action.
Playing all their crowd favourites and reminding the crowd how good their were or should that be are. They were playing back together as its the tenth anniversary of their debut album again something you should look up lol.
